He was deported to America where he was adopted by an olive oil Sicilian importer. He grew up in the streets of New York where a number of Mafia operated in the illegal business of prostitution, shylocking, gambling. Till his marriage he remained a quite spectator but it was only when his own living was jeopardized by the illegal activities of the Mafioso, he killed one of the local Mafia. The people starting to respect him as a man of influence, who was continuously asked to act as intercessor for people?s affairs in return of some monetary rewards and other favors. As his influence began to grow, he was asked by local gambling houses to protect them from hoodlums and was put on there regular monthly payrolls. He with the help of his redoubtable friends like Clemenza and Tessio became the local Mafioso chief and invested in the olive-oil business. He pursued the investors and wholesalers in various parts of America in the oil business with his peerless influence and personality. His excellent organization of workforce into caproregimes and his own formidable personality overturned almost all of the major Mafias in surrounding regions and took over there areas of operation. Either they were stamped out or they were incorporated into the realm of Don Corleone. Don Corleone after nourishing the business with his wisdom and far-sightedness now formed the most influential family of New York. His influence now extended to all the surrounding precincts, lawmakers, senators and other influential people of the country. He had a large number of people on his regular payroll including police personnel, button-men, and others who became his Law Enforcers. The reason behind Don?s success was his intelligence and adroitness to handle situations. Being a true Sicilian he obeyed the Law of Omerta (silence). He never raised his voice, always maintained his composure, and never made naked threats to his enemies or rant in front of them. He believed that to underestimate the enemy is the biggest mistake and letting them underestimate you is your biggest blessing. The Don always kept analyzing the changes taking place around him and changed with them with all his power. He always felt indebted to anyone who did a service for him and when he gave service he told them that they may be ask for a service in return. This was the main business technique of the great Godfather. People called him ?Godfather? not out of fear but out of respect for he never disappointed anyone, he strongly believed in making friends even with his enemies. Godfather had three sons, Sonnie, the eldest, Freddie and Michael (Mikey) and one daughter, Connie. Sonnie was a strong cupid-faced chap who was intelligent and also keen to become the successor to Don. But Don, due to Sonnie?s hot-tempered nature knew that he won?t be fit for the post. Freddie was not capable to become Don due to his cowardness. Youngest of them all, Michael Corleone was witful. He had proved his capabilities by joining Navy and going on war during World War-I. But Mikey had his own concept of life and disliked the outlaw activities of his father. He joined Navy against his father?s will and had also decided to separate from the family after his marriage with Kay Adams. But when Don was shot and banished to hospital by one of the enemies named Solozzo, he decided to help his family in the hour of need and went all the way to kill Solozzo and his bodyguard, a police officer. He had to be deported to Sicily till the matter cooled down. Meanwhile, when the Don was recovering from his wounds, Sonnie took over the Don?s position and decided to retort to the family?s enemies strongly, by going to the mattresses. Hee made a lot of enemies by wiping out anyone who came in his way of his desperate attempt to gain back the family?s position. All this cost his own life at the hands of one of his most dreaded enemies, the Tattagalias. Finally when Don recovered he knew that the blood feud has to be stopped to stop the large losses incurred in the fight. He finally made peace with his enemies and committed himself with all force to bring Mikey back by clearing all charges against him. All his efforts bore fruit and Mikey could be brought back home. The Don retired and handed the business to Michael. Michael decided to wound up all business in New York and shift to Nevada, to invest legitimately into the sprouting and lucrative business of Casinos in Las Vegas. When everything was being planned under the supervision of Don, for the first time Don disappointed Mikey. Don Vito Corleone died of a heart attack. Michael Corleone didn?t give up. He had the brain of Don himself. He knew that he has to complete the unfinished business of wiping out all there enemies so that they don?t come after them once they give up the Mafia business. There enemies were caught unwary and the Vendetta finally got over.
