After waking up from a terrible dream in which Voldemort is plotting his death, Harry senses that his enemy is nearby. During the summer, he is invited to attend the
Quidditch World cup with the Weasly?s. Following the match however, panic ensues as the Dark Mark of Voldemort is cast in the sky.
Once arrived at school, the students learn that the Triwizard tournament will be taking place at Hogwarts this year. It is a competition between three wizards of three schools. Representing the schools of Beauxbatons and Durmstrang are Fleur Delacour and Victor Krum. Cedric Diggory is chosen to compete for Hogwarts, but much to everyone?s rage, Harry is mysteriously chosen also.
After completing a series of difficult tasks, and after witnessing many bizarre happenings at Hogwarts during the course of the year, Harry and Cedric touch the Triwizard trophy together.
The trophy ends up transporting the boys to a distant graveyard. A man then appears and instantly kills Cedric and ties up Harry. The man then performs some type of incantation that transforms Voldemort back into the powerful wizard he was once. His followers, known as death Eaters, begin to assemble around him. Voldemort then attempts to kill Harry, but the boy uses a counter curse which literally connects to the wands in mid-air. The ghosts of the victims of Voldemort begin to emerge from his wand. Once the connection brakes, they stay long enough to delay Voldemort, so that Harry can run back to the teleporting trophy and escape.
Harry returns mentally and physically exhausted. The Defense against Dark Arts teacher, Mad-eye Moody takes Harry back into his office. He then tells the boy that he is a Death Eater and that he planned the night?s events. He is on the verge of killing Harry when Dumbledore and some other teachers burst into the room and stun him. They then find the real Moody who was looked in a chest, but unharmed. At the end of the year feast, Dumbledore explains the death of Cedric and the return of Voldemort. Everyone realizes that the future is dark, and that destroying Voldemort would be more difficult the second time around.
