The Pact
(Jodi Picoult)

Publicidade
While this is my least favorite Jodi Picoult book, it's still a good read. I found it to be quite disturbing in that it deals with the controversial subject of teen suicide. However, it's still a page-turner. It's just not a book you'll feel good about after you read it. It leaves you a little sad. Still, it is a love story and love stories aren't always happily-ever-after. This one certainly isn't. The book is about two childhood friends who ultimately fall in love in their teenage years. You'll see the emotional turmoil involved, and sympathize with them. Their parents are best friends as well and you'll experience the pain they feel and the events that unfold because of their children's love. Jodi Picoult, while she tends toward courtroom dramas, uses the emotions of the characters to grab her audience more than the legalese of the courtroom. The story revolves around the question as to whether the teenagers, Emily and Chris, have made a suicide pact, or is it something more? There is an accusation of murder that forces the characters to make choices beyond the point of no return. In reading The Pact, you'll become involved in each character's life and understand why they made the hard decisions that they made, although you may not always agree with them. As I said, it was a bit disturbing to me, and even so, I found I couldn't put it down but had to hang on until the very end. At times, this book is a tear jerker. It has been made into a Lifetime movie and I look forward to viewing that. But as we all know, the book is always better! If you like Jodi Picoult books, you'll like this one, and come away wanting to read more of her works.
