Twelfth Night
(William Shakespeare)

Publicidade
One of the most interesting aspects of the play is that it constantly toils witht he idea of sexuality and gender issues. Orsino at the start of the play reveals his love for Olivia. Orsino is the Duke of Illyria however Olivia is still mourning her husband and still seemms to be so wrapped up in his love and affection. She doesn't want to pursue the Duke because she is still in mourning. During that era it was common for women to mourn there lovers for up to 10 years.
In another part of the play Viola is revealed as being shipwrecthed and she has lost her brother at sea. It is made clear that he is not dead however she still worries about him. The sea Captain explains that the Duke will be pursuing Olivia and the plan is inacted that she be disguised as a man to work beside the Duke. This is done because the Sea Captain informs Viola that they are now shipwretched by the land occupied by Orsino.
Cesario (Olivia) than travels to the Duke of Ilyria and much confusion begins to begin. Viola tries to get Sir Andrew to stop liking her but all attempts just seem to lead to more confusion. Maria the maid is also involved in the confusing mess she seems to have the affection of Malvolio who is shovanistic and thinks only of himself and his way of living.
This play seems to be such a sharp relation to a midsummers night dream because of so much madness and disarray. Orsino begins to think that Viola who is disguised as a man Cesario is Olivia the women that he care for. As well a whole list of characters begin to join the cast of the play combining both confusing and uniqueness to the entire play.
