The fourth chronicle of Arthur Dent, opens with him arriving on a planet, and trudging away from a space ship in the rain to a nearby highway. As he stands there waiting to hitch a ride he is passed and splashed, by a familiar- one that he recognizes as belonging to a not so fond acquaintance of his. He is picked up shortly after the incident by a guy who has a very beautiful young lady passed out in the back seat. He states she is is sister and stark raving mad. He drops Arthur off at a familiar pub, one Arthur hasn?t seen since the day the Earth was destroyed. Arthur is back home, not only to earth but to his same neighborhood and so he discovers his old home, which has not been wrecked. He soon settles in and to try and locate this remarkable young woman he had seen Fate intervenes and he sees her hitchhiking by the side of the road. He discovers her name is Fenchurch and they have an unusual meeting at a train station café, after which she gives him her phone number. But as Arthur?s luck would have it, he loses the number. Meanwhile, he decides, for nostalgia?s sake, to try and locate the modern day location of his cave back in prehistoric times. Through total luck, although unknown to him, he finds the exact coordinates and decides to pay them a visit. It?s flat and when he rings he bell, Fenchurch answers the door. It was love at first site and they take full advantage of fate?s kindness in reuniting them. Arthur discovers that Fenchurch has an unusual gift, one that helps him teach her to fly. They embark on many nighttime escapades using this talent. But Fenchurch is troubled by a feeling that she had a stunning revelation that she cannot remember and Arthur wants to know what has happened to the dolphins and why Earth is back in it?s place. They journey to California to meet an expert on dolphins that has declared the Earth insane. He tells them of a planet that has God?s final message to civilization and of the angels that take care of it nd occasionally come to visit him. ON their way home from California, Arthur reveals that he knows of the plant and that he is a veteran space traveler. They then make plans to visit the planet and begin waiting to ?hitch? a ride on a ship. Meanwhile Ford Prefect has found himself battling a corporation that is trying to take over the galaxy. After an intense battle he manages to put the perpetrator in cryogenic sleep. He is referencing the Hitchhiker?s guide when he suddenly discovers a multitude of entries about earth. His curiosity peaked he takes off to find Earth and ends up crashing on Arthur?s couch. Ford Arthur and Fenchurch make a made escape from Earth and Fenchurch and Arthur set off for the planet. It?s a long journey through a desert land and they find another pilgrim on the path- Marvin the Paranoid Android. They help him reach the destination and with dying optical sensors he read the message and fades away.
