George is a small man, who is very sharp and very aware of his surroundings. Meanwhile, Lennie is a giant who does not know his own strength, and he also has a mental disability. However, that does not affect the friendship of the two men, and although George might complain about Lennie some times, he is devoted to taking care of his loyal companion.

They are two migrant workers who have a dream that drives them forward every day. Their dream is to own a piece of land that they can farm and that will allow them to be self-sufficient. Unfortunately, as soon as they arrive at the farm they are working at, their dream slowly dissipates.

The two workers are immediately disliked by Curley, the boss? son who is overly protective of his flirtatious wife. The team leader, Slim, however, befriends the two men and admires their friendship. They will witness the troubles that Crooks, the black stable buck has to deal with everyday, as well as the loneliness of Curley?s wife and of Candy after the death of his dog.
When Candy joins in on Lennie and George?s plan to buy land, their dream seems in reach. All of their hopes are destroyed, however, when Lennie accidentally kills Curley wife. In order to save his friend from the persecution that he knows he will not be able to handle, George kills Lennie. Without the presence of his best friend, the dream is unrealizable, and him and the rest of the workers return to their jobs, with no hope of escaping the miserable lives they live.
