This book, written in the year 2000, proclaims to be a step-by-step manual for planning a wedding for a reasonable price. While the book did provide a bit of useful commentary here and there, I personally found most of it useless in the planning of my own wedding. I found that much of the author?s advice was situational and therefore useless, provided you weren?t in exactly the right situation to make use of it. In the event that you don?t have an old family friend who is a judge, or a good friend that can belt out Motown hits with the best of them, what are you to do? While I am not claiming that you can?t have a lovely wedding for a reasonable price, I am claiming that if you plan on using this book to do so, plan on having another plan.
Much of Kennedy?s advice borders on that of being common sense ? or just plain silly. For example, her suggestions for a wedding ring are to buy a smaller ring, like one in your Price range ? or to borrow a ring from someone else and buy one later. Kennedy is simply amazing.
Most of the book consists of actual weddings where the couple spent less than $5,000 and a break down of their budget. This is actually a novel idea. However upon delving further into the book you find that these weddings are typically non-conventional ? a barbecue on the beach, getting married on the honeymoon without guests present, inviting family only (assuming that the total number of combined family is around 35) and other similar stories. Unconventional weddings are fine, but assuming you want a traditional wedding for the price tag Kennedy is advertising, you?d better forget it. She doesn?t have a clue how to do it, and if she does, she is not telling in this book.
