The Two Towers

At the end of the Fellowship of the ring, a group of raiding Orcs kill Boromir and take Merry and Pippin into captivity, believing that they are the ring bearers. The remaining members of the Fellowship, Gimili, Legolas, and Aragorn, begin pursuing their fellow companions. Along the way, the reach a forest, where they are stunned to learn that Gandalf has been reborn as the White Rider. He leads the group to Edoras, the golden hall of King Théoden, the ruler of the realm of Rohan.
Meanwhile, Merry and Pippin manage to escape the custody of the Orcs, and they encounter an Ent named Fangorn, an ancient treelike creature. At an Ent assembly, they decide to go to war against the corrupted wizard Saruman and his Orcs.
Several other members of the Fellowship, including Gimli, Legolas, and Aragorn, resolve to pursue Merry and Pippin. They follow the hobbits? tracks through fields and forests, always on the lookout for Orcs. The group encounters the Riders of Rohan, led by Éomer.
Once in Edoras, Gandalf exposes the king?s counselor, Wormtongue, as a spy for Saruman. The company then heads to Isengard, after surviving a brutal siege in Helm?s Deep. At Isengard, they find out that the Ents have won the battle, and that Saruman is hiding in his tower along with Wormtongue. Wormtongue attempts to kill Gandalf by throwing a sphere at him. It is actually a Palantir, a magical orb that transmits images. Pippin curiously looks into it, and the Dark Lord Sauron discovers his location.
Meanwhile, Frodo and Sam meet Gollum, and force him to be their guide to Mordor. They successfully reach the Black Gate of Mordor, but are disappointed to realize that it is closed and well guarded. Gollum tells them that their only choice is to follow a hidden path into Mordor.
During their journey, the hobbits and Gollum meet a band of Men led by Faramir, who offers support to their quest. Gollum leads the hobbits through a series of dark tunnels inhabited by the deadly female giant spider, Shelob. The two friends become separated, and they realize that it was a trap planned by Gollum. Sam discovers Frodo?s immobile body, and believes him to be dead.
Realizing that the quest must be completed, Sam takes the ring. He is about to continue to Mount Doom, when he is forced to use the ring to hide from a group of Orcs. The creatures take Frodo, and because the ring allows to wearer the understand Orcish, Sam learns that Frodo is only unconscious, and not dead. Sam immediately begins pursuing the Orcs that have is best friend captive.
