Living Your Dreams, by Gayle Delaney, is a great book for anyone interested in understanding dreaming. Delaney has developed a simple but effective method for teaching people how to utilize their Dreams in problem solving. Keeping a Dream journal can be an effective tool for transliterating dreams. Dreams are unique and specific to us. There are archetypes, and universal themes but there is no rule saying our dreams will use them. We are the creators of our dreams. We pull from a vast pool of personal experience to create symbols that are meaningful to us. It may be common for a dream image of a house to represent a person?s inner life or for a car to represent the direction and momentum of our life, or, those images might be pointing to quite different meanings. Each dream is a fresh creation, designed by our souls to enlighten our conscious minds to an idea or concept it had not yet recognized. This book steps firmly away from any dogmatic or formulaic interpreting of dream imagery and symbolism. Dreams will reflect our cultural experience, but not to the exclusivity of our unique, individual experience. When analyzing dreams it is imperative that we carry no expectations. A dream might need to be interpreted objectively or subjectively, possibly even from both perspectives. To effectively interpret a dream we need to become familiar with the language, and structures our dreams adopt. Writing a dream down can be especially insightful. The mental process involved in translating intangible concepts, and emotions will reveal many subtle metaphors. Moreover, dreams are often laden with puns we don?t recognize until they have been spelled out, literally. Our dream weaver is as apt to amuse us, as to terrify us. Repetitive dreams and nightmares only signify realities we refuse to acknowledge.
