Hotel Rwanda

Hotel Rwanda is history in the making. The story revolves around the Hutu and Tutsi pitted against each other by another nationality who supplied the machetes. The Hutu's are armed with guns and the Tutsi's' with machetes. But who supplied the oppossing parties? After the whites leave the country, the Hutus are in left in charge and now seek vengeance against the other culture. Does this sound familiar? What makes this so classic?
During slavery days the whites pitted the light-skinned blacks against the dark skinned blacks and the animosity has lasted down until this day. How do I know, you may ask? It was brought to my attention that my so-called friend who was light skinned thought she was better than me (I'm dark-skinned). I didn't believe it and defended her. But to my dismay she admitted it one day when a young man stood up in her face and stated, "You are know better than I am". She stepped back, embarrassed by the confrontation. He walked away calmly and proudly. I watched her carefully and she stated, "Yes, light skin sisters think they are better than their dark skin sisters". I was amazed since her hair was kinkier than mine! Needless to say, we are no longer friends.
However, Hotel Rwanda is a little different. Those left in charge went searching and eventually murdered their neighbors; ending any friendships which existed prior to the war. I saw this movie and was amazed at how people could exterminate one another without any qualms! Yet, what struck me the most was the classic ploy which has been used for centuries. Divide and Conqueror! An old trick with a new twist which never fails.
However, what also never fails is love which is why the hotel manager shielded and protected 1200 Rwandans. Yes, love of humanity is what kept slaves safe, too in this country and it will never be crushed or wiped out.
Fortunately, Love prevails!!!
