Speaking of fiction, or rather pulp fiction, Dan brown's "the da vinci code" has become something of a monument to our generation's insatiable appetite for sensationalism.The novel reads like an encyclopedia would or should! a good one at that. Aside form the deliberate foray into the always controversial aspect of Christ's life, which gurantees it will be read. The novel is a good read, with a well spun plot, running edgily and continously through the book.Its not a book for lovers of mystery, the charaters and motives are very easy to see through, you might find yourself saying 'hah' i knew he would turn out to be the... and other sentences like that.So, lovers of mystery be wary, you have probably read it anyway and found it simple?The other thing about the novel's structure is it incorporates a lot of information about things and events that may be apocryphal or even questionable, but its fiction and i suppose artistic freedom holds sway over historical accuracy.
The writer is an expert at pulling the reader along, events unfold in such a way that you are not tempted to sneak a quick peek at how the novel ends! the ending is a disappointment! i expected much more from the ending, since the author was already eagerly plunging into controversy, i would have prefered him to go all the way.The singular feeling you get after you go thotugh the book, is just how well researched this book is, this is its strongest point, the narrative for the most part is banal, but then thats probably the only kind that can command our attention in our fast paced world.Go for it, the book has ingredient's which a lot of other books lack: readability, a coherent plot, and a minimum of charaters.
