UN ROI COURAGEUX
Pépin était un roi de France .Il était surnommé le Bref à cause de sa petite taille,mais il avait beaucoup de force et de courage. D?abord,ses seigneurs pensaient qu?il était trop petit pour être leur roi,mais il prouva à ces messieurs qu?il avait des qualités vraiment royales.
À cette époque,on aimait à voir des combats d?animaux féroces .Un jour Pépin assistait en compagnie de plusieurs seigneurs , au combat d?un lion avec un taureau. Lorsque tout fut prêt, Pépin donna le signal ,et les deux bêtes entrèrent dans l?arène.
Comme vous savez, on nomme le lion le roi des animaux, et certainement ce lion-là méritait bien le titre. Il marcha, la tête haute, regardant autour de lui sans peur .Puis il tourna les yeux vers son adversaire,et ,avant que le taureau eût le temps de l?attaquer, le lion saisit l?animal à la gorge.
En voyant ce pauvre taureau à demi étranglé,Pépin fut pris de pitié. Il sauta dans l?arène et tirant son épée, il tua le lion d?un seul coup. Cet acte de courage frappa tout le monde d?étonnement et d?admiration , et les seigneurs ne questionnèrent plus son droit d?être leur roi.
A COURAGEOUS KING
Pépin was the king of France.He was nicknamed le Bref because of his small size,but he had strength and courage.First his Lords thought that he was very short to be their king, but he proved to his Lords that he had real royal qualities.
In this era one liked to see the fights of ferocious animals.One day Pépin witnessed with several Lords the fight of a lion with a bull.When all were ready Pépin gave the signal and the two beasts entered into the arena.
Like all know,one calls the lion the king of animals and this lion deserves the title.It walked, head high , looking around him without fear .Then he turned his eyes towards his opponent and before the bull had the time to attack it,the lion grabbed the animal to the throat.
Seeing the poor bull half strangled ,Pépin had pity .He jumped into the arena and pulled out his sword ,he killed the lion in one go.This courageous act hit the whole world with shock and admiration and the Lords did not question their King.
