If the title doesn?t appeal to an immediate reading (unless, of course, you have an interest in Ornithology), after a few pages of confusing dialogues and characters that make us ask inside ?but what??, ?whom?? we are drawn into the description of this (these) story (stories) and begin liking this writing, this confusing genius of words which I recommend, and we ask, at a given point, after being completely immersed in the story ?Where are the birds, after all?? and they?re around, fluttering shyly between one page and another, noisy seagulls that mock the reader by showing up when least expected ?We?re here, after all, dear reader, or did you think the title was but a hoax?!?? I?m here, seagulls, I see your immoral beaks tearing apart that body, but eat, eat!... I can tell you that I?ve tried several times to begin reading this book and gave up after a few pages, until I?ve decide that Mr. António Lobo Antunes, or more accurately, his ?Explanation? deserved a reading, even if somewhat complicated at first (maybe I?m the dumb one :o) )and ended up, in fact, realizing the tenacity of the dialogue, which, even now, is a pleasure for me to read and I know that a few, not as many as I?d like to, will also certainly enjoy it. Read these birds, even if you won?t come to understand their explanation, I haven?t myself, maybe because Mr. António wants to keep it well locked in the wings of the birds which visit us in the pages of this book.
