A Poet's Blessing
(Collection of Poetry: Steve Twelvetree)
Its interesting to note that in these old anthologies we find something of use to keep us in the mood for poetry ...
A Poet's Blessing is no different other than to say it evokes a past that is intriguing and worthy of mention.
I flicked through the pages of this self published anthology and found some poems that stretched my imaginative facilities to "bursting point" as follows ...
"Where I walk" a poem by poet: James W Sargant features the use of the "I" in the introductory lien /I walk through fields of clover/ ... lovely thought especially if you are sitting on a hard bench in London, pen in hand notepad on the desk and staring at the very tall buildings in Hammersmith opposite to your hotel room ... the mind is invaded by poetic thoughts ...
The poet walks into "my England" ... through verdant pastures ... untouched by man or plough ... its just as well he is not resident where I am as the only areas of note are the M3 Motorway and the M27 both roads stretching across land where once wild life roamed ... children played ... and many a poet went for a walk in the clear bright air of a frosty Autumn morning!
"Rebel" by SM Thompson .. "Thompson machine guns are silent" strikes a note of arms .. the military ... the terrorist forces ... "Phil has a gun in a drawer" the major character here is ready to fire back ... there is a break in the dialogue ... weapons are ready for use ... "McGuinness preaches like a priest" reference the IRA's Head of Department ... instructing his followers to listen to his call either for or against violence in the streets of Northern Ireland.
I spent sometime there and was surrounded by Media, Foreign and local, and was in fact interviewed by European Television on the subject of "The Good Friday Agreement" ... thus I wrote this /political poem/ though at that time it never entered my mind that my small steps in poetic metre would extend to cover the United States of America ... as my friend said to me in Ulster ... "Who would like a wee girl from Ulster would go so far" ... well ... I guess ... somebody did take the risks, and fortunately they worked it out together ...
Great poetry and great poets ... in A Poet's Blessing Edited by Steve Twelvetree Triumph House/UK...
