Pieter, a boybutcher from the town, falls in lovewith Griet. The rich Van Ruijvenalso shows interest for her, butVermeer intervenes. Nonetheless, hecannot refuse to paint a portraitof her for Van Ruijven. Seriousproblems result and decisions areforced to be made.
