The book of Genesis can be described as a book of beginnings, begetting, believing and becoming. Beginnings such as human history that include marriage, Babylon, human civilization, sin and death, the promise of the Redeemer and also the Jewish nation. Genesis is also a book that describes the family tree from Adam to the founding of the nation of Israel. This account of begetting focuses on6 people and their families: Adam; Noah; Abraham; Isaac; Jacob and Joesph.The purpose of these genealogies is to trace the Redeemer's ancestry.
The book of Genesis is also a book about believing.Many people in the book of Genesis put their trust in God and believed in His promises.
Noah built an ark after believing God.
Abraham left home andbelieved God that he would get to the Promised Land. God made promises and He acted on those promises on behalf of those who showed faith and trust and belief in Him.
And lastly, the book of Genesis portrays God as a patient God who works with His people and shows patience in helping them to become what He wanted them to be. This is a book of becoming and even though His people had failed Him many times, God still remained patient and did not forsake them.
