Tristan And Isolda

The story about Tristan and Isolda is a sad, unhappy-love kind of story. They fell in love with each other by pure accident and that led to unbearable suffering and a tragic end. They were meant for each other, but they couldn't simply spend their lives together. Marriage was out of the question as Isolda was married to king Mark, who was, incidentally, Tristan's friend. The love elixir that they drunk by accident made their love an ever-lasting one and played havoc in their lives. The lovers are painfully aware that they can't be together, and that a life lived together is not their destiny, nevertheless they never give updesperateattempts to intertwine the lines of their fates. Only a couple of minutes spend together is a treasure for which it is worth fighting against dangers that lie in wait, against all the norms and God's commandments. Love is more powerful than reason, love overcomes fear, love is what controls the actions of the hero and the heroine. Love is more powerful than both of them. King Mark, misled and deceived, is a miserable man who fights against the invincible: destiny. Tristan who used to be a paragon, an ideal knight serving his master, his country andGod, becomes an outlaw, a criminal who cheats hissenior. As in the Greek tragedy, every step in this story brings us closer to the final, inevitabledenouement. Banished Tristan dies of his wounds and longing for his beloved and Isolda's heart breaks out of despair when she learns of Tristan's death. The final scene presents the incredible power of love which overcomes even death itself. When the lovers were buried, a miraculous thing happened. A hawthorn growing on Tristan's grave made its way into Isolda's. It is a beautiful symbol of eternal, true and unique love which can never be destroyed.
