Pride And Prejudice
(Jane Austen)

Publicidade
Working backwards from the fact that we know exactly what is going to happen in Jane Austen's universally loved romance, we can appreciate for real the true isolation felt by women at the time of the novel, and therefore the almost-tragic charm and intelligence of Elizabeth Bennett -none of which robs us of any of the glorious detail and observation of human nature which are Austen's trademarks.Having recently travelled through Austen country, I can also see how her sense of calm orderliness reflects the landscape in which she grew up and from which she was scarcely ever parted. Her grave, nestled in the supreme glories of Winchester Cathedral, is clear and proprotioned just like her novel.Of all Austen's heroines, Lizzy Bennett seems to me to be the one who, though perhaps least like Austen in fact, would have been most like her in her own imagination.
