A classic by Jane Austen this book presents a judicious and interesting mix of romance, pain, denial and a host of other emotions that add colour to an otherwise dull human existence. The story unfolds in numerous social gatherings, parties and neighborly visits. The happenings are woven around theBennet family. The characters aredescribed vividly and come to life as one reads along.
Mrs Bennet is the nagging wife and the pushy mother seeking to get her five daughters married off to well placed gentlemen while her husband is the patient husband and proud father. Each of the Bennet girls is an individual in her own right with varied approaches and attitudes. Their otherwise simple lives take an interesting turn when the very wealthy Mr Bingley moves in to the neighbourhood accompanied by his proud friend Mr Darcy. What follows is an intriguing narrative that centres around the loves and lives of the main characters.
Jane Austen is successful in keeping up the suspense and keeping the readers interest alive as well. The story has the right element of drama which is probably why it has inspired film makers to bring it alive on the big screen.
