Pride And Prejudice
(Jane Austen)

Publicidade
What could happen to a girl in the 19th-century England when she had grown up? Well, there was no other way but to find a suitable candidate for a husband, suitable meaning rich and from a good family. This was a terrible pain in the neck for the girl's parents, especially when a potential victim appeared on in the neighbourhood. But what is to be done, for God's sake, if there are candidates, Holy Mary, even more than one (who would dared to dream of such abundance!) but an obstinate daughter wants none of them. Is it possible to let her choose, something, let us remember, rather extraordinary at those times, and certainly something that would be considered an unforgivable breach of all sensible rules (imagine the neighbours gossiping, good God!), and that's it! sense or sensibility? reason or heart?the old couple we remember from other Austen's books. And what will the heroine do? That is thequestion. At timesit gets boring, I admit, but the social customs and the main protagonist Elizabeth is very well portrayed. There are lyrical, comic, intriguing and (yes) erotic elements in the plot. The most interesting is, of course, the ending.
