Aesop S Fables
(Aesop)
Aesop's Fables is an absolute treasure trove of fantasy and simple logic. Aesop tells tales with simplicity and the moral of each tale is truly inspiring and can even classify as food for thought.
The Fables that are popular across the globe have enriched the lives of many children. An interesting aspect that I as a teacher of Commerce and Management have found is that they are very useful in teaching principles of management and communication. They are the source of valuable inputs and practical approaches to day to day life. The story of the milkmaid who carried her pitcher of milk and fantasised about her future gains through the sale of the milk which ultimately ended in the milk being spilt due to her pre occupation with "what would happen" rather than "what is happening", is a reminder to all of us that we while it is good to think positively it is also important to be realistic. We should not fritter away what we have in the hope of what we could have. A harsh reality that we often ignore.
Each of us is blessed with certain abilities at the same time we have our own limitations. While we should accept them and try to improve, we have to remember that each of us has to work within the plan that a higher power has for us. There will always be people who are better than us while we should admire their abilities we should retain our individuality and not mimic them. This has been put across most beautifully through the story in which the mokey's dance draws applause and that of the camel draws mockery.
All in all Aesops Fables make for interesting reading and offer some great practical tips that can make our lives so much easier. To restrict their scope to bedtime stories for kids would be denying their utility in our adult lives. They are indeed a must read for anyone desirous of getting a practical and simplistic approach to an otherwise complicated existence.
