TITAN BOOKS - This story is not a full one in itself, though that is how it is misleadingly presented. It is really the opening chapter of the Goodnight Kiss Judge Dredd adventure, which I have also reviewed here on Shvoong. Jonni Kiss is a killer with a strange fetish for kissing his victims just before he dispatches them to their doom. His victims are not helpless women, or crime syndicate operators, but judges. He seems to be a Russian assassin, though the reason for his mission is not clear from this book. He takes out a judge, leaving the judges of Mega City One wondering who to replace him with. He even takes out some strange Alien entity (clearly modelled on the Aliens in the Ridley Scott / James Cameron films), and kisses them as he wipes them out too. It is fun when he disables one of these lizard-like beasts by grabbing it by the snake like tongue, which immediately paralyses it. The alien entity, which seems to be working as a European judge has brought Jonni Kiss a piece of paper, on which the name of his main target is give. The name is of course that of Judge Dredd. The story ends with Jonni Kiss preparing to go after his supreme target. This is such a slight episode that declaring it a self-contained story at all is really misleading. Fortunately, its place in The Goodnight Kiss anthology right before the title story into which it feeds affords the reader some insight into what the largely unexplained events are leading up to. It is unusual for a 2000 AD Judge Dredd comic to use this kind of teaser story in a graphic novel format, and hopefully not an approach they will repeat too often.
