In The Line Of Fire
(Pres. Pervez Musharraf)
Shatranj Ke Khiladi President Pervez Musharraf seems like a disheartened man. He has always been on the losing side. This book is another loser. A pita hua mohra on the chessboard which is called the India Pakistan War Theatre. The General discusses endless moves in a labrynthine manner. He appears as a victim of conspiracy. He has tried to blame everyone for the loss at the hands of India in Kargil. He should remember that Victory and Luck always favours the brave. I am reminded of a line in 'The Good, The Bad & The Ugly' which says - 'If you want to shoot; shoot; don't talk'. The General has wasted a lot of pages in pointless discussions and finger pointing. He has furnished little facts and more of political and diplomatic jingoism which fail to shed light on - why did the war happen? Why should some soldiers pay with their livesfor the political ambitions of others? The General in a sense is trying to justify this war as some kind of jihad. He fails to see the damage it has done to the families of 100s of soldiers and citizens on either side. If the General ever writes another book it should shed more light on India-Pakistan Peace talks. He should not justify his war time moves as "Queen's Gambit".
