This non-fiction book is a father's memoirs about his son (Johnny), who dies during his late teenage yearsdue to a malignant brain tumor. It is a very inspirational and tragic story of a boy who is very brave and optimistic despite his declining health due to the tumour. Although he is so close to death, he remains hopeful and persistently tries to make the most of his life. Not only is his courage and positive attitude admirable, the acuity of his mind and inquisitive nature are very impressive. The knowledge of his tumour does not prevent him from conducting various scientific experiments at home, whenever he is not at the hospital. He bravely works towards his goals and completes his schooling through self-study, as he is unable to attend school. He takes private tutoring, graduates with his class, and even attains admission to the reputable Harvard university when he is weeks away from his painful and difficult death. His dedication and determination throughout the novel is truely motivating. He refuses to be pampered with sympathy and shows a great sense of humour throughout. He inquires about the details of his medical conditions, and insists on knowing all scientific details regarding potential cures. He even conducts some experiments, whichhad never beenperformed before,with aneighbour who works asa professor.This touching story teaches one the meaning of life.
