Wikipedia - Russian Version
(????????)

Publicidade
The Russian language version of Wikipedia has already entered the top-10 Wikipedia versions in languages other than English, i.e.those which consist of more than 100,000 articles, of which there are now 11 in total. But what exactly is Wikipedia? Wikipedia is a free, multi-lingual encyclopaedia where anyone can create, edit or expand entries. However, you won't be able to find it in your local library or indeed buy it to put on your bookshelves, as it is not printed on paper, but instead can be found on the World Wide Web. It is a new development, having appeared at the beginning of the millennium - the Wikipedia project was established on 15th January 2001. Since then, its popularity amongst Internet users has continued to grow and the encyclopaedia itself is developing and is added to at a rapid rate. The Russian version first appeared in 2002; by January 2006 it had reached 55,000 articles and this increased to 100,000 in August of the same year. Other versions that have reached the 100,000-article mark include Spanish, Italian, German, Dutch, Polish,Portuguese, French, Swedish and Japanese. But by far the largest isthe English version which currently contains more than 1 million entries. On the home page of the Russian-language Wikipedia you can find information on the contents of the Russian version as well as details of the Wikipedia project itself. There is a Featured Articles section which includes those entries that have been rated as the best within the project by users themselves. There is also a section entitled Did you know...? highlighting those facts that have been deemed as the most interesting by readers. Also on this page, under On this day, you can find out about events that occurred on that particular day in history. On the home pages of other versions of Wikipedia, there is also an invitation to contribute articles, but this is absent from the Russian version. At the bottom of the homepage there are links to sister projects, such as: Vikislovar' [Wiktionary]: a collaborative project to produce a free, multilingual dictionary with definitions, etymologies and sample quotations; Vikichebnik [Wikibooks]: a collection of textbooks, management and other educational material; Vikitsitatnik [Wikiquote]: a compendium of quotations; Vikiteka [Wikisource]: a free-content library; Vikividi [Wikispecies]: a new project intended as an open and free directory of species; Vikinovosti [Wikinews]: a free news source that can be edited; Vikisklad [Wikimedia Commons]: a database of media files; Metaviki [Meta-Wiki]: Wikimedia project coordination. Anyone can re-publish information, where permitted by Wikipedia, and add to it as required. http://ru.wikipedia.org
