The clan of the cave bear is a prehistoric novel We are far back in time , 35000 years ago , somewhere in europe .A clan of Neandertal people ,while fleeing an earth quack , finds a baby while escaping the disaster . The healer of the clan , decides to hold and keep this baby , and to adopt him actually , A fatal decision for their future to come. One can perceive , three main aspects in that novel ? A brilliant description of the daily life of our ancestors, is brought to the reader, with that delicate respect of historic givens concerning that prehistoric period. We deal actually ,with a voyage far back in time . One can be plunged actually with descriptions of actes as ? hunting , producing tools , performances of spiritual rituals ,practicing self healing with vegetables and so forth ?. We deal with a very essential entity , self sufficient one , it has it`s codes , it`s traits , it`s values and merits , but above all ? it`s tabus . Very soon , that romantic harmony is intervined with that " problematic " creature" ? Ayla" ? that baby found while that escape mentioned, took place .It is very quickly perceived by the people of that clan , that , this baby is totally different from them . He is larger in size , more intelligent , more adaptive to what`s surrounds him?and less hairy .Certainly ? not to be included among our ? Neandertal species , but to another one , much more " developped " and progressive ? that one of the ? " cro ? magnon " . And so , the conflict between that ? Ayla and the clan, is actually inevitable . And it is a severe one? one wich breaks the codes and permits what had been prohibited .This time ? despite the fact that the healer ( Iza) and the shaman ( Mog ? ur ) are yet standing for his favor of that Ayla , the bannishement is also inevitable . Beyond historic and literature aspects , emerges here, that insight of tolerance and feminism . While progressing with the reading , one may notice how Ayla becomes gradually very defiant with the patriarchal idea or perception of that era and clan. she actually stands up against the females conditions and oppression. She wants actually to take part in man activities , like ? hunting , she refuses to humiliate her self in front of man, while the latter talks to her , sexual relationships are not taken for granted with her ?she is rejected for being so maverick .
