The Hitchhiker's Guide To The Galaxy
(Douglas Adams)
oh...i just knew this would happen...oh don't mind me,i'll just sit here and watch you go ahead though and have a good time with your infinite improbabilities, space and time be jiggered, i'll just sit here and rust shall I? no? oh well... funny? don't talk to me about funny there's an infinite probability that this book will get the marrow in your teeth tingling with the level of wit and affection with which Douglas Adams deftly demonstrates how little we actually know about our immediate environment, (y'know, the universe) and about the awesome responsibilities we as human beings have if we actually wish to survive as a species. now don't get me wrong, i love being human, although on occasion i have an alarming habbit of more closely identifying with the oh so cintillating Marvin it occurs to me that a global view of our current situation here on this beloved rock in space time is long overdue. Now the inherent Vogonity of our situation is plain for all to see, we move in, shuffle some paper around, scream for coffee, kick the blatter beast (probably loosing a foot in the process) and then hobble to the bus stop to stand shoulder to shoulder with folk we see every day and never speak to,wondering how it is that in this bustling state of afairs we can feel so isolated and afraid. Well should this ring a galactic bell for you my fellow earthlings, pick up this book boldly marked don't panic, settle in with your comfy slippers and a gargle blaster or two and just soak up this message from the heart of the galaxy it's own self, and the message is this, there is nothing to fear, there is nothing to loose, life is sweeter than the juice of the nangwarri plum nectarine, and the cosmos created it for ...YOU.
