The Flying Eyes
(HOLLY, J. HUNTER)
ABSTRACT - HOLLY, J, HUNTER - THE FLYING EYES (1962) Monarch Press. An extremely rare Science Fiction pulp classic novel that is quite entertaining well written cheerful nonsense. It would make a classic B Movie. The plot is simple enough. At A US sport stadium thousands of spectators and the players suddenly lose interest in the game when giant disembodied eyes fly silently over the stadium. The eyes immediately start to hypnotise the spectators who are immediately enslaved, becoming zombie like obedient servants of the clearly malevolent entities. Fortunately for civilisation, one man in the audience is immune, as an accident has caused him to wear a metal plate in his skull. He begins to lead the resistance against the eyes, personally rescuing a few allies and helping them to become immune to the influencer of the eyes. The small band of resistance fighters joins him in the struggle. One inevitably proves to be the woman who the hero loves. . The eyes are actually proved to be just one part of vast alien beings that are able to detach their body parts, (arms and legs and heads) as well as eyes, and send them out to deal with their enemies. Giant fists at one point chase the hero. The creatures need our World but also need to make it highly radioactive in order to survive. They hope to use their enslaved people to dig out more plutonium and such materials while the creature?s shelter in a nuclear power station they have taken over. The hero, and his growing band of allies manage to destroy the fiends in the nick of time. Even the book cover, by Jack Schoenhert has become a classic collectors item for many fans. It was produced in postcards that led many to desperate hunting for the book, which was produced in fewer numbers. I?m sorry I no longer have my copy now.
