The Dalek Invasion Of Earth
(DICKS, TERRANCE)

Publicidade
ABSTRACT ? DICKS, TERRANCE ? DOCTOR WHO AND THE DALEK INVASION OF EARTH 1977-1990 Target Books. #17. Novelisation of the classic Dr. Who adventure featuring the (William Hartnell) 1st Doctor from 1964. This adventure was also the basis of the mildly diverting film version starring Peter Cushing as the Doctor. As the title suggests, the Daleks have invaded Earth, or at least London. The increasingly evil Daleks have enslaved the human population, apart from a group of resistance fighters, who assist the Doctor and his companions, Ian, Barbara, and grand-daughter, Susan. The Daleks plan to mine the Earth out and turn it into a spaceship so that they can use it in their conquest of the rest of the Universe. Their problems are made worse by the wild animals, including a crocodile, which have escaped from London Zoo during the war against the ultimate in tin-pot dictators. It is fun reading the novelisations of the adventures, where chapter breaks make for an interesting alternative to the episode cliffhangers. This is a well-written novelisation of one of the Doctor?s best-loved adventures, and it concludes with one of the most startling and touching final scenes in the history of the series. The Doctor, knowing that the defeated Daleks will come seeking revenge against him, decides to abandon and exile Susan on earth for her own protection. He does this by locking her out of the TARDIS (his space-time ship) and flying off without her on board. This was how the assistant was written out of the programme and it?s a truly heart-breaking moment even in the book. This is the nearest you can get to enjoying the show short of renting the DVD today. Terrance Dicks is one of the best of the Who authors, having worked as script editor on the series in its heyday.
