The Pelican Brief is another very powerful and commanding novel by John Grisham.Darby Shaw is a bright legal student who lives a happy life in the French quarters of New Orleans. Shehas wonderful love affair with her law teacher, Thomas Callahan. She?s beautiful and ambitious and life just seems great for her.The book starts with two Supreme Court Justices murdered in one night!Justice Rosenberg, the most liberal of the supreme court, and Justice Jensen, the most conservative, are killed. Why would someone kill the most liberal and the most conservative. It couldn't have been political. The FBI have no clues for the case and Darby Shaw is asked to write a brief on it.Darby Shaw, a law student at Tulane University is the only person who may know the solution to the mystery. But there is only one person she can trust: newspaper reporter Gray Grantham.She then begins to write a brief about it and because of a reaction to her brief, a bomb is placed for Shaw which instead kills Thomas Callahan, her teacher as well as her lover. While Darby is running for her life, Gray Grantham works on a story about the murder of two judges. A mysterious informant calling himself Garcia and a tip from Darby Shaw, calling herself Pelican, give him his first insight into the Pelican Brief. Eventually, Grantham and Shaw begin to work together to find the killers. Unable to trust anyone but each other, they have to discover who the mysterious Garcia is and determine who is reponsbile for the assasinations of the Judges.
