Harry Potter Andthe Prisoner Of Azkaban
(J. K. ROWLING)

Publicidade
ABSTRACT J. K. ROWLING ? HARRY POTTER AND THE PRISONER OF AZKABAN (1999) Bloomsbury Books. The third, and for my money, the best to date of the Harry Potter series. There is an increasingly doom laden darker mood to this book, especially with the introduction of the terrifying Dementors, the spectral guards who search for the escaped prisoner, Sirius Black, and come close to killing Harry in the process. They are possibly the scariest creatures since the vampire. Black has escaped from the wizard prison, Azkaban, and to date he is the only man to achieve this. Everyone thinks he is out to kill Harry Potter, who finds himself subjected to maximum-security protection. This is awkward as he plans to sneak out to Hogsmeade, a village holiday resort much loved by wizard-students. Harry has not gained permission to go (he needed the signature of his Muggle (non-wizard foster parents, the Dursleys). Harry is distressed not to gain such permission and runs away from home, and ends up being taken to Hogworts on The Knight Bus, a mysterious spectral triple decker that takes him first to Diagones alley, in the Wizard merchandising district in London, where Harry meets the Minister of Magic who is kind to him. He is granted permission to stay with the Weasleys until Hogworts School term time begins. Harry heads for Hogworts and meets the new Dark-Defences teacher, Professor Lupine, (the name itself a clue to the man?s werewolf tendencies). Hermione is acting strangely, She already has a reputation as a school swot, but now she appears to be taking two classes at the same time - she is in fact dabbling with time travel, with permission from Dumbledore, theHogworts headmaster, to increase her opportunities for learning. Investigations prove that Black is in fact innocent of the murders he was arrested and imprisoned for, as e and Lupine fight in a shack under the Whomping Willow tree. The real villain proves to be Petigrew, who has masqueraded as Scabbers, the pet rat belonging to Ron Weasley (in effect making him a spy throughout the first two HP books too. Harry and friends solve the mystery, and they use Hermione?s time travel devises to solve two problems simultaneously. They help Sirius Black escape from the Dementors, and also help their friend Hagrid foil attempts to kill a griffin that he has used as a pet. Petigrew escapes however. A much moodier tale than the first two books, (see my review at http://www.shvoong.com/books/408669-harry-potter-philospher-s-stone/) and the last of the short Potter books as Rowling moved on to writing epic scale fantasy around her hero from here on in.
