Harry Potter And The Philospher's Stone
(ROWLING, J. K.)

Publicidade
ABSTRACT J. K. ROWLING ? HARRY POTTER AND THE PHILOSOPHER?S STONE ? First of the highly lucrative and very readable H P Books which have encouraged so many of the children of the World to give up computer games for literature. The books are a basic fantasy formula tale of wizards, witches and magic in a strange middle class boarding school called Hogworts. Harry is a child who was born of parents at the school who are killed one night by an evil wizard called Lord Voldermort (who few dare to mention even by name). Voldermort tries to kill Harry too, though he is a baby. He survives, and Voldermort vanishes, severely weakened, presumed dead by many. Potter is dumped on his appalling Muggle (non magical) foster parents, the Dursleys, who are a serious case for the social services. They lock Harry in cupboards and try to hide from him the fact that he is a potential wizard. Harry unwittingly does perform spells though, even accidentally releasing a snake on a visit to the zoo. Soon however, the cruel world he knows is shattered. Hagrid, a former teacher, and the giant who guards the grounds to Hogworts visit Harry. He tells Harry to come to the school as a student, though he must return home to the dreadful Dorsey?s outside of term times. Harry is rich, and famous just for surviving the Voldermort attack. He travels to Hogworts on train that few Muggles know of, and initially, school is idyllic. Powerful wizards and an extremely powerful enigmatic headmaster called Dumbledore run it. Inevitably however, there are bullies and bad teachers. Harry falls foul of the Slithereen House bullies and one teacher in particular, Snape, despises him. Harry learns quickly, and becomes a champion at the broomstick polo game called Quidditch, but a magic attack nearly ends his career. Harry assumes that Snape is responsible, as he was spotted doing magic, but Snape was actually trying to save Harry from the real villain, one of Voldermort?s agents, who Harry eventually defeats and kills. Harry is now even more famous and gains many loyal friends at Hogworts. Sadly, his adventure ends with his need to return to the house of the Dursley?s, but for now, they?re afraid that he might turn them into something nasty, so they are careful enough to avoid contact with him. He hasn?t told them that he is forbidden to use magic in the Muggle world.
