The Picture of Dorian Gray is a powerful piece of classic work. I can classify the literature as classic, but it is much harder to decide what type of classic literature this is. Personally, I would call at a fantastic allegory on life. You see, there are elements of fantastic or science fictionin this work. The person's portrait grows old in his stead. So the person, a handsome young man, whose name (you guessed it) is Dorian Gray stays forever young and forever handsome. How is that not fantastic? However, it is also an allegory because it depicts a human being and his experience on this planet in a very allegoric way. What happens is that although the body of Dorian does not succum to any kind of change, his soul does. And if the experience of the body is utterly positive--come on, it is everybody's wildest dream to stay forever young and handsome or beautiful--the experience of the soul is utterly negative. It grows more and more corrupt every day. First, it indulges in every human wish, but then that wish grows into lust, lust into an addictive sin, and sin becomes the worst sin a human being can commit--murder. At this point in the book, a change does come. But whether the change is for the good or for the bad, you must find out for yourself. This will be an exciting ride. Just make sure that you do fasten you seat belts because, even though this is not a comedy or a horror story, some things will make you laugh, but some might really terrify you... Anyway, enjoy your ride.
