In The Line Of Fire: A Memoir
(General Pervez Musharraf)

Publicidade
?In the Line of Fire: a Memoir? a 368 pages book priced at $28 is the autobiography of General Pervez Musharraf, yesterday?s coup leader and today?s favorite dictator. The focus of the book is on the military coup in which he toppled Sharif, the Kargil war, his Kashmir diplomacy with India, 9/11 and the US, the India-Pakistan border standoff, his war against Taliban and al-Qaeda, Osama bin Laden and the country?s nuclear programme. He has an entire chapter of Kargil and portrays that as an act of supporting the freedom fighters. He comments that it remains a mystery for him why Nawaz Sharif went off and decided on a ceasefire although Pakistan was in a strategically advantageous position. He says that it was Nawaz Sharif's political mishandling of a "favorable" military situation. In short, he has portrayed himself as an infallible leader who made all right calls, saved nation from disaster, did the world a favour. He blames everyone for Pakistan?s travails. Although he?s made all attempts to create his image as a ?somebody?, it lacks the luster and the essence of an autobiography a great leader. It has also invited a series of controversies. The title of the book is misleading too, as Musharraf was always ?out of the line of fire?.
