(Michael Carson)

Publicidade
Sucking sherbert Lemons is Michael Carson's first published novel. It provides a humerous look at homosexuality and the Catholic faith, particularly concentrating on the concept of Catholic guilt.

The main focus of the novel is on a 14 year old boy, named Benson, although due to his ample body mass he adopts the nickname "Wobbles". Benson is a devout catholic, but struggles with several issues, such as uncontrolable gluttony, and in the main, homosexuality.

Every week benson and 2 friends meet in his garage, and participate in activities under the group name of "The Rude Club", where they participate in "irregular motions of the flesh" and of course, each week it sends him scurrying to confession in blind spells of pure guilt.

Eventually, reflecting the authors young life, Benson decides to train as a novice in the religious order. Benson's reasoning for this is to escape the temptations of his sexuality, but finds that running away from his problems makes it no better, and infact even worse.

This book guides you through an incredible journey of this young boys teenage years, and really gives you a feel for how this young man percieves the world and its concepts.
