The action of the play is placed in August 1947, in Midwest of the United States. The events represented occur between Sunday morning and after two hours the next morning. Joe Keller, the character as a chief, is a man who loves his family especially differently, and sacrificed all, including his honor, in his fight to make the family prosperous. He is now sixty-one. He lost a son in the war, and is sharp to see his son remaining, Chris, marry. Chris wishes to marry Ann, the old one been engaged of his/her brother, Larry. Their mother, Kate, think Larry to be always alive. It is this belief which allowed him, for three and one half of years, to support Joe by hiding his knowledge of a frightening crime which it committed. the bottom of:The to the action three and a half of years before the events of the play, Larry Keller was reported disappeared in the action, while stealing a mission in addition to coast of China.
