The Tell Tale Heart
(Edgar Allan Poe)

Publicidade
This short story by Edgar Allan Poe tells the tale of a madman. This is evident by the style adopted by Poe; he uses short sentences and detatched dialogue. The character is continually asking the reader if they think him mad, as if he is paranoid. He keeps trying to convince the reader that he is not mad, but unfortunately for him this makes him appear moreso because it appears that he is in denial. The man is obsessed with the eye of an old man (which the reader discovers he murdered) that has cateracts. The man becomes so confident of being able to convince others of his innocence that he is almost forced to confess his crimes because of his paranoia. He is driven insane by a loud beating sound that he believes to be the heart of his victim, but it is, infact, his own.
