Whether or not you believe in it, the world?s best selling book deserves your attention. Among the thousands of translations available, my preference leans toward ?The New World Translation of the Holy Scriptures? (printed by the Watchtower Bible and Tract Society of New York, Inc.) because it relates the ancient writings in a manner that?s both easy to understand and enjoyable to read.

One does not need to be a writer to appreciate the graceful simplicity with which the scriptures are consistently written. For example, consider 1st John 4:8 which reads, ?He that does not love his brother does not know God, because God is love.? In so few words, the writer delivers a lesson so simple and universally beneficial. Think about it. With practice, that single verse could probably solve every problem plaguing mankind today ? peace would reign in the Middle East and everywhere else, everyone would have enough food? the snowball effect of such good and honest relations could affect every aspect of life on this planet for the better.
The calibre of writing found at 1st John 4:8, and throughout the rest of the book, is not easily found elsewhere. At times, Shakespeare does come close though.

Another remarkable characteristic about the book is the creative plots contained therein. A carpenter?s son rises to become the king of the Jews, and walks on water in the process. The strongest man on earth holds his strength in his hair, but is weakened by a haircut. A man becomes a resident inside a whale?s belly. The list is very long.

Also, the descriptions of earth?s creation, the splitting of the red sea and the plagues that befell ancient Egypt are portrayed with such believable imagination that one is whisked through the passages as if on a magic carpet ride.

Whether or not you believe the writings to be magical, is an entirely different abstract altogether. But these things are for certain, reading the Bible is always enjoyable, educational and won?t hurt a soul.
