It?s a recipe book with an altogether different outlook. In the modern world of junk food and environmental pollution, we need to keep our immune system highly efficient at all times. We should also teach good eating habits to our children as it is well known that prevention is better than cure. The author has beautifully captured various immunity enhancing qualities of various eatables. Charlotte haigh has made it an easy reading by classifying them into roots, bulbs, vegetables, fruits, nuts, oils, pulses, poultry, dairy, seafood, herbs and spices etc. A simple recipe is presented with each food and I tried a few of them. They were good and make for an intelligent eating.
The photographs are magnificent and help in identifying the foods. It would have been more useful if a glossary of names in local lingo was written according to the country in which the book is sold. Many of these food items are not available in India and result in frustration. They say that the food consumed in its natural/raw form has maximal nutrients. Most of the recipes complement that view. The presentation of the text is very user/reader friendly as the pages are color coded. Various immunity enhancing qualities like anti-allergic, anti-bacterial, anti-oxidant, detoxifying, good for the heart etc have been highlighted with each food by the use of color symbols. Immunity boosters like vitamins, minerals, fiber, omega fatty acids etc in each food is listed. In the end, foods are recommended for some of the common ailments.
All-in-all it?s a very informative book without being boring. You can start from any page. Though nature has intended to provide us with good things to eat, knowledge of various foods can definitely motivate us to eat all varieties thereby making it balanced food consumption. A good coffee-table book as it is very concise. It leaves the reader wanting for more.
