This is the story of an extraordinary adventure. A lad of 16 leaves for Canada from India in a ship with his family and a number of animals.His father had been owning a zoo in in the Indian state of Pondicherry and they had decided to emigrate to Canada. in the mid - ocean they were shipwrecked. The lad and one tiger find themselves on a lifeboat as the two survivors and companions. It is a long descriptive account of their day to day life on the lifeboat - the daily life of these two survivors in the mid sea until they are rescued and brought to land after many days of being adrift. How the tiger got the name Richard Parker is described humorously.
