Charlie and the Chocolate factory has a wonderful dreamlike quality, emersing the reader in a fanstasy, combining humourous characters with chocolate, tons of chocolate, the perfect comination! The hideous, selfish little children and their equally repulsive parents are hilarious and unforgetable. The Chocolate Factory itself is created perhaps with a little help of magic, holding inventions that even now remain as elusive as fairy dust to the real world. Roald Dahl has created a book containing all the elements of an enchantment that has captivated readers for years and will continue to do so for years to come.There is much to say on the subject of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. Interestingly enough, there seems to be a slight Dickensian feel about the whole thing. A little like Oliver of Oliver Twist and Pip from Great Expectations, Charlie finds his true calling thanks to an unexpected benefactor. He rises up from abject poverty, craving that bitter-sweet sugary miracle called chocolate, and gains so much more, thanks to his own sweet and honest nature. Willy Wonka of the chocolate factory, eccentric, wise, benevolent is seeking an heir to his huge chocolate empire. His factory, closed to the public for years, due to industrial espionage, has been reopened exclusively to five children and their accompanying adults for one day only. These children have to find one of five golden tickets, wrapped elusively inside only five Wonka bars sold around the world. The story follows the journey through the Chocolate Factory, making the readers' mouths water giving them proper laugh-out-loud moments throughout the story. Eventually, like all good stories, you have the happy ending. A thoroughly enjoyable read!
