An East Indian princess hires a brokenhearted hero to replace an injured bodyguard.
Alexandra Radford, governess and private tutor of the ten-year-old heir to the throne of India, desperately needed a bodyguard. The raja wanted his son Mohan to learn the ways of the English. Therefore, Alex escorted him to London. They had only been in town for a week when the first would be assassin struck. Three bodyguards had been injured during as many weeks. Somebody wanted the prince dead and they would kill anyone who got in their way. Alex had sent the injured guards home with a request for reinforcements. There was no telling when the re
placements would arrive. Alex was not sure how find a suitable guard, so she hired a private investigator instead.
John Aiden Terrell, having loved and lost, had decided that once was more than enough. He was determined not to be distracted by a pretty face or a perfect body. Quick wits, ready laughter and sound reasoning; however, held a certain appeal. As soon as he spoke with his latest client, Aiden knew she was not telling him everything. Whenever he asked a direct question, Alex either told him a half-truth, an unrelated truth or changed the subject entirely. She told him things she felt he should know and did not realize there was a gap in the facts. Or rather, she did not think he would notice that not all the facts had been presented. Obviously, she did not think much of hired guards. Not that he blamed her. Based on her experiences in London, her bodyguards were incompetent at best and traitors at worst.
The raja had enemies who would not hesitate to attack a vulnerable child. But Aidan did not realize that Mohan was not the only East Indian royalty in London. Alex was the raja?s illegitimate daughter.
