Biblical Mysteries
(MELANIE ENGELS)

Publicidade
The Bible refers in many parts to the mysteries, secrets and hidden things we are to uncover. In many parts it hints at lies that we are made to believe. Obviously then, the Bible stories cannot be taken in their literal account.
The Catholic Encyclopaedia defined Mystery as, "a supernatural truth by its very nature lies above the finite intelligence". Therefore, supernatural truth, until uncovered, will remain puzzling and mysterious. Obviously then, if there is a higher truth and we are not living in the truth, we must be living in the lie.
Following is a biblical quotation on mystery ordained before the world began. ?But we speak the wisdom of God in a mystery, even the hidden wisdom, which God ordained before the world unto our glory.? (1Corinthians 2:7) God?s wisdom is a mystery, and the hidden wisdom a still greater mystery, and it was so designed before the world began, - to give human striving some meaning in life in search of reality!
Originally mystery was a religious term. The Sacred Mysteries were rites into which only the initiated were allowed to take part; hence, who are these ?initiated?? Christians have been following religious rituals over a very long time without actually knowing their meaning, or purpose, yet, they feel compelled to follow them. Why?
All religious scriptures are stories of myth that contain some truth. Ample use is made of allegories to portray, ?a heavenly story to convey an earthly meaning?. Elusive as their meanings may be, they are always used in an endeavour to identify a higher concept. Hence, known events, objects and people were used in the story telling to come closer to solving the mystery, like hints given in solving a puzzle.
A concept is a way of picturing something in the mind in accordance with how the sense perceives it. Either through one or all of the five sense perceptions the brain receives signals that are interpreted by the mind. Through hearing as a thing is explained or heard; through feeling an object; through tasting a substance; through touching matter; or through seeing a picture the mind interprets these images, but also from imagined forms.
The picture created in the mind determines the concept. If sense perception was not interpreted according to reality no true conception can be established in the mind. Pathological liars are often times those people that have been lied to a great deal themselves that they can only vaguely perceive of the truth.
If we talk about a house or a table objects that everybody has seen before there is no problem in establishing a common conception; however, with concepts like heaven, justice, truth, there is no uniform image in people?s mind as to their true meaning. Therefore, misconceptions have often been the reason for confusion leading to violence and wars. On an individual level the same principle applies to neurotic or mentally disturbed people. Not until all societies perceive of abstract concepts with the same understanding that mankind will live in peace because conflicts are as a result of misunderstanding the other peoples plight. The term sacrament is derived from the Latin word sacramentum meaning, a holy thing or act. Its translation is of the Greek ?mysterion? meaning, mystery.
Many Christians are not aware that the sacraments have an underlying mysterious meaning. Each of the sacraments that Christians follow is one of its kind and carries a mystery in itself. By partaking of the sacraments Christians come closer to the mystery solving in religion; though most Christians follow merely the ritual oblivious of the underlying meaning. Ancient oral traditions and ritual exercises can carry information over a long period of time without the people involved in the transmission having a clue about the meaning of the content.
The Roman Catholic Church recognizes seven sacraments instituted for the purpose of atonement of sins, namely: Baptism, Confirmation, Matrimony, Eucharist, Holy Orders, Penance and Reconciliation, and Anointing of the Sick. In previous lives some Christians have learned their lessons empirically from the religious sacramental rites through atonement, while others have to be reminded to continue purging themselves in their new life. Originally there existed more sacraments but when people conquered the mystery they were abandoned. Some day, when Christians have conquered the remaining mysteries these rituals too will be abandoned.
From Baptism trough to Confirmation during the instruction on religious issues children are granted an extra-natural source of wisdom, knowledge, and courage; while the sacrament of Marriage was to encourage both husband and wife to remain true to their religious oath even during difficult times. This is often ignored in the present days, and a sign some people are becoming more liberated from religious norms and many having absolved their marriage sacrament in a previous life now wish to be released from this religious oath. To chose one?s mate carefully and on common grounds is a predictable factor for remaining faithful to one spouse. Through Anointing of the Sick compassion and love for our suffering human brothers and sisters is humbly communicated which was neglected or abused by degrees in past lives. Red Cross workers, the workers of humanitarian organisations, nurses and doctors, and individuals proportionately atone themselves with their services to humanity.?The Cosmic Hierarchy and its Endless Diversity?, by Melanie Engels, is available from Amazon.com.
