Cujo
(Stephen King)

Publicidade
The weather was hot in this 1980 summer, probably the hottest summer that Castle Rock ever knew.
Tad Trenton, four years old, is convinced that a monster is hiding in the closet of his bedroom.
A monster with a hot and pestilential breath, the sharp-edged hooks.
His parents, Vic who works for a bilberries cereals factory and Donna who got trouble assuming the consequences of her betrayal, want to be reassuring.
No monster camps in his closet!
Brett Chambers is older, and he also lives within a couple beating wings.
Joe, his father is not to tend.
And when his mother decides to spend a few days in her family, Brett is anxious for Cujo.
A few days earlier whereas he would run after a rabbit, the of one hundred kilo Saint Bernard is bitten by a bat.
Brett does not know it, but it realizes that his dog is adopting a strange behaviour, as if it was really painful for him to support heat.
By a morbid combination of circumstances, work will carry out Vic far from his family a few days, and their car being about to give up its last breast, Donna leads it in the only garage in town: Joe Cambers.
But he will not help them repair breakage, he is no longer in a position to do it. Embanked by the disease, his dog ate him after having attacked his alcohol pal.
And man?s best friend then will become a nightmare to the two families.
Locked up in their broken down vehicle only a few steps away from the Camber?s house, Donna and Tad Trenton will have to face this blood hungry animal.
And we, poor readers, are divided between the affection that King gave us for this poor dog and the desire for seeing the small family escape.
The author makes us share the anguish of Cujo, which feels its state worsen with along the pages, and distresses of the Trenton and Cambers families in front of this alarming murderer.
The suffering of the dog facing the disease, the suffering of Donna and Tad under the blazing sun and the ceaseless attacks of their predator, the suffering of Brett for his faithful friend...
All these combined sufferings will give rise to a drama who will remain one of the most dramatic and saddest stories that happened in Castle Rock.
Stephen King plunges us in our childish fears, and shows us that the monsters are not hiding in the closet, he proves us that they are everywhere the shade advances, that they remain waiting to catch us as we emerge.
We do not eat Cujo, we let ourselves eat!
