The Art Of War
(Sun Tzu)
The Art of War is one of the greatest treaties of strategy of all times. A book as useful to the executive or the military, as to anyone else committed to succeed in life. Written by the Chinese General Sun Tzu based on his experience during his diverse campaigns. In this work, the editor presents an abridged, and yet, wide vision of the basic postulates of Sun Tzu, inviting all to reflect and appreciate the applicability of these foundations, in both the personal and collective sphere. In daily life, in work, in human and social relations, basically, at all times, we are requested to strive for victory, always conscious that ?the enemy lives next door?. Victory, for Sun Tzu, represents the antagonism between war and peace. Sometimes, war is necessary, as a ?perfect peace? is not always possible in human societies. That is why, as conflict lays latent, we should work on our strength, skills, ability to read the situation and be efficient in self-organization, that is to say, ?to subjugate the enemy without fighting?. Thus, discipline helps to discern between perception and judgment, leaving space for natural intelligence to manifest itself in the world of possibilities that is shared by everybody. Nowadays, the principles of The Art of War may be applied not only to military tactics, but also to nearly all sectors of human activity. We are living in a world in permanent exercise of war of reasons and counter-reasons. The consensus defended by Habermas seems refuted by the evidence of time: to be at war, one needs only to have been born. Social, cultural, economic, religious, political, scientific, philosophical, etc these are all permanent war elements in our lives. No one wishes to be a loser, everybody wants success, so a lot is to be learned in the SunTzu teachings, like how to win every battle. In these days of globalization, wars are fought mainly in the field of ideas, across all areas of human activity, and the winners don?t have to fire on e single shot. This meets Sun Tzu?s knowledge, when he tells us that the supreme merit of the winner consists in breaking the enemy?s resistance without fighting. The here presented teachings, are extended to all humans engaged in the daily battle for success in the struggle against our modern adversaries, be that colleagues at work, rivals, or bosses, among others. Sun Tzu used to say that The Art of War is of total importance for state; we can say that in the days we are living, The Art of War is a vital book for the individual.
