irritable bowel syndrome is an idiopathic clinical entity characterised by lower abdominal and bowel complaints that may be continuous or intermittent . defined as abdominal pain or discomfort with the features 1.relived by defecation
2.onset associated with change in frequency of stool or 3 .change in appearance or stool.other symptoms include abnormal stool frequency [more than 3 per day or fewer than 3 per week]watery hard or loose stools or straining urgency,feeling of incomplete evacuation,passage of mucus,bloating .
treatment is reassurance,dietery therapy/high fibre diet,drug therapy
