Acts 2:38 Then Peter said unto them (Repent and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of your sends and yea shall receive the gift of the holy ghost for the promises is unto you and your children and those that are a far even as many as the lord thy God shall call.)
This scripture was the answer to the question the Romans had for Peter (Men and brethren what shall we do seeing we have killed the Christ? On the day of Pentecost Peter stood and told the people what they should do to get forgiveness for there sins Repent meaning turn away from, and stop doing that thing that is bad, to make a change in your life. With out our dedication to our spirituality there can be no remission of sins. This step is the cleansing of your temple to get it ready for Jesus to come and live .The next step is to understand baptism this word comes from the Greek word BAPTIZO meaning immerse.
This word tells us we should be immersed in water .Baptism is too burry that old man. All of your past sins will be clean washed pure as the driven snow, you are no longer held accountable in the eyes of Jesus for the sins of yesterday you are forgiven. But just to be baptized any old way is not enough. Peter said for us to be baptized in Jesus name .Some of our ministers will tell you that Father Son and Holy Ghost are ok as long as you were baptized. How can this be ok to refuse his precious name? The bible also tells us every thing you do in word and deed do in the name of Jesus. Evidently to some that means every thing except baptism. Peter then went on to tell us that you will receive the Holy Ghost for this is the promise and he doesn?t stop there but promises to give the gift to all of our seed if you do as he said. Life here on earth is but a dress rehearsal we are the bride of Jesus Christ getting ready to meet him .He said he would know his children that are called by his name. I should think we would do every thing to make sure we were called by his name through our most important step to the throne repenting and our baptism. Through out the bible he was called many things. In the Old Testament he was called I Am that I Am , Elohiym Jehovah Emmanuel and many others .Jesus is also a son ,a brother , a teacher ,a healer ,a God , but none of these are his name his name is JESUS and through this precious name we can be saved. We can be healed .We can find peace and love that passes all understanding. Our life can change our insides can change. The bible says we would be persecuted for his name .It also tells us we can cast out demons in his name there is power in his name they have to flee .All you have to say is I rebuke you in the name of Jesus .I doubt I rebuke you in the name of the father son and Holy Ghost would be very effective. When I am in trouble I call for Jesus and he is always there why would I ever want to dinghy his precious name. It is not enough to say we believe we must act on our belief how can we say we believe in him and not fully except his glorious name in all things?
