Who Would I Choose To Be?
(Sheena Maria D'Souza)

Publicidade
This is a beautiful poem based on the passion of the Lord, where the poet is thinking of the place he would choose to be if he were to go through 'The Passion' of the Lord. He is questioning himself and is wondering if he would choose to be like to be Peter, the Apostle, who stayed with Jesus throughout the night but then betrayed him thrice out of fear. Would he prefer to be Judas, the person who betrayed Jesus with a kiss and then committed suicide when he realized his mistake? Would he condemn Jesus to Death, because of what the Pilate did or would he be a Roman Soldier who put Jesus garments on bid. Would he help Jesus carry the cross like Simon of Cyrene or would he be like Veronica who wiped his face clean of blood and sweat. Would he choose to be the Mother Mary, the mother of Jesus whose heart was torn to pieces that day or be like the other women of Jerusalem who cried throughout the journey. If he were to be one of the criminals who were hanged with Jesus that day, would he choose to be the good or the bad one? Would he be like the good criminal who felt sad when Jesus was insulted, or would he be the one who chose to mock Jesus. If he had to choose between any one of these, he would still have to bear the loss of Jesus and he finally knew, that he would choose to be the cross of Jesus. Of course, not the cross that pulls Jesus down, or the one that made him fall, but the one that Jesus held close to him right till the end. He would not be a cross that was tied to the hands of Jesus or the one that was too heavy to carry, but he wants to be the cross that was there till the end with Jesus on Mount Calvary. He doesn't want to be a cross of humiliation and shame but wants to be the cross, which like a child holds his father's name. The decision is finally made as he realizes that Jesus chose the cross to tell his beloved children that he loves them. So, also, he chooses the cross to tell Jesus, I love you too.
