Spirituality and Youth Power

The word spirituality is generally associated with the concept of god. It creates images of sages or sanysis or priests, who are learned in matters of soul and salvation, spend their time contemplating on scriptures and have transcended the pleasures of the senses. Consequently, spirituality is considered to be something beyond the domain of those who are steeped in worldly matters, concerned with the struggles of day to day living. In reality however, spirituality is an earthly matter. It is nothing but an awareness of the oneness in the universe. This is a very simple and self-evident concept.

Once a young man who was well educated met swami Vivekananda in 1897, said I sit in meditation, shutting the door of my room and closing my eyes as long as I can; but I cannot find peace of mind. Can you show me the way?

?My boy? said the swami in a voice full of sympathy ?If you take my word, you will first of all have to open the door of your room and look around instead of closing your eyes. There are hundreds of poor and helpless people in the neighborhood of your house; then you have to serve the best of your ability. He who is ill and has no one to look after him, for him you will have to get medicine and diet and nurse him; he who has nothing to eat, you will have to feed him; he who is ignorant, you will have to teach him, well educated as you are. My advice to you is that if you want peace of mind, you have to serve others as well as you can?. In my views this is real spiritualism. This advice to youth is extremely relevant today. The abundant power of youth. If channelised and harvested properly for rebuilding our motherland, will surely bring prosperity and peace to the nation.

Human life is most precious, highly sacred, beautiful and invaluable. The body has been gifted in order to serve. You must firmly resolve not only to take care of yourself but also others. Unfortunately, man today does not know what ?spirituality? means. The essence of all the eighteen puranas can be summarized in two short sentences: HELP EVER. HURT NEVER.
