Publicidade
At Christmas the four March girls try hard to be good so that their father will be proud of his little women when he comes home from the civil war. They give away their Christmas breakfast to a poor family. The Laurence boy's grandfather sends them ice-cream, cake, fruit and French chocolate because Hanna told his servant about their breakfast party. Laurie lives in the house next door with his grandfather. The old Mr Laurence think that Laurie plays quite well the piano but he want him to do well in more important things because Laurie's father married an Italian lady, a musician, and the old man didn't like her. Moreover he never saw his son after they were married. Mr Brooke, Laurie's tutor, complained to the old gentleman that his student was always running across to see the Marches.
Beth, one of the little girls, often plays the piano in the next door and to thank Laurie's grandfather for his kindness, she asked her mother and sisters to help her to make a pair of slippers. For the gift he sends her a letter with a piano which belonged to his little granddaughter. Mrs March, the girls and Laurie were sitting together on a dull November afternoon when Hanna hurried into the room with a telegram which tells that Mr March was very ill. Mrs March asked Laurie to send a telegram and says that she'll come at once. Soon after, Meg, the oldest of the little girls, saw Mr Brooke by the door. He tells that he was very sorry to hear the news and said that Mr Laurence and he think it will be a good idea if he travels with her mother. On the first day of December the doctor comes in the morning because Beth was ill. When she woke from her long sleep she looked into her mother's face and smiled. Their mother told them about their father's health, and she says that Mr Brooke promises to stay with him. Christmas Day was very different that year. Here's another Christmas present for the March Family. There were tears of happiness on many faces when the girls saw their father with Mr Brooke at home.
